Neva Mikulicz

Houston-based artist Neva Mikulicz is widely recognized for detailed drawings executed in a hyperrealistic style using prisma- color pencil and graphite on paper that allude to vintage photography and prints.

Mikulicz’s drawings embrace the unconventional pairing of elements from mass culture along with personal characteristics that derive from the artist’s memory and sense of humor. The obsessively complex pencil renderings open the compelling dialogue questioning the relationship between ‘mass media’ and the ‘hand-made’.

Mikulicz received her MFA from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Her work has been exhibited in numerous art venues throughout the world including Modern Art Museum in Trujillo, Peru; Shift Studio in Seattle, Washington, and Shanghai Art Museum in Shanghai, China. She was awarded the Mid-America Arts Alliance and National Endowment of the Arts Fellowship Award and her work is included in collections such as the Martin Museum of Art at Baylor University, Waco, Texas, and Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.

Now for something completely different

Me and my alter ego

I have always seen myself as a drawing. And I am a nerd.

Here I am as Commodore Mik. My own fanfiction character. The Commodore is in charge of the equipment evaluation especially and including all the starships and captured alien hardware. The Commodore takes command of the Enterprise, temporarily, after Kirk gets sent to the Star Fleet Fat Farm. This gives her and her staff time to evaluate NCC-1701. I plan to do my own comic book.
